Tree Work in Snoqualmie

Snoqualmie Tree Service From Our Home Base

Snoqualmie doesn’t have a tree-specific permit. Removal falls under the city’s clearing and grading code instead: outside critical areas, clearing less than 5,000 board feet of timber or 7,000 square feet of vegetation per parcel per year is exempt. Inside a critical area or its buffer, that exemption doesn’t apply.

Snoqualmie is also home base for Devoted. Most of downtown sits in the Snoqualmie River floodplain, just downstream of where the river’s three forks converge, while the forested buffers on Snoqualmie Ridge are managed by the Ridge owners association. Our ISA Certified Arborists know the ground here, and you get a free written estimate before anything is booked.

Know the Rules

Snoqualmie’s Tree Rules in Plain English

From Snoqualmie’s clearing and grading code (SMC 15.20):

✓There’s no tree-specific permit — removal falls under the clearing and grading code.
✓Outside critical areas, clearing under 5,000 board feet of timber or 7,000 sq ft of vegetation per parcel per year is exempt.
✓Significant trees are evergreens 15 inches and up and deciduous trees 12 inches and up, excluding red alder and cottonwood.
✓The exemption doesn’t apply in a critical area or its buffer — that work needs a clearing and grading permit.
✓Emergency tree removal to prevent imminent danger to people or property is exempt.
✓Trees overhanging a street or sidewalk must leave eight feet of clearance above it.

Snoqualmie Tree Service FAQ

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Snoqualmie?

Usually not for a few trees outside critical areas. Snoqualmie has no tree-specific permit; removal falls under clearing and grading, which exempts clearing under 5,000 board feet of timber or 7,000 square feet of vegetation per parcel per year.

What if my property is near the river or a wetland?

Then the exemption doesn’t apply — work in a critical area or its buffer needs a clearing and grading permit. Much of downtown lies within the Snoqualmie River floodplain.

Who handles trees in the Snoqualmie Ridge buffers?

The city’s urban forest plan says the forested buffers on Snoqualmie Ridge are managed by the Snoqualmie Ridge owners association, so check with them before any work in a buffer tract.

Who do I call if a tree brings down a power line?

Call 911 and stay well away. PSE takes outage and downed-line reports at 1-888-225-5773. Once it’s safe, we can clear the tree — call us 24/7 at (425) 584-1233.

Do you offer free estimates in Snoqualmie?

Yes — free on-site inspections and written estimates, including whether your lot touches a critical area.
