Tree Work in Auburn
Auburn Tree Service From ISA Certified Arborists
Auburn gives homeowners room: you can remove up to six trees per lot in any 12-month period without a permit — or six per acre on lots over an acre — as long as the trees aren’t in a critical area or the right-of-way, or required by an approved landscape plan.
Auburn is a Tree City USA with a Heritage Tree program that recognizes trees for their age, rarity and size. Its critical areas — wetlands, streams, floodplains, riparian zones, steep slopes and their buffers — need city review before any vegetation is altered. Our ISA Certified Arborists will tell you what applies, in a free written estimate before anything is booked.

Auburn Tree Service FAQ
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Auburn?
Usually not for a few trees. Auburn exempts up to six trees per lot in a 12-month period, outside critical areas and the right-of-way and as long as they aren’t required by a landscape plan.
A tree is leaning toward my house. Can it come down?
On residential property, a tree closer to a structure than the distance from its base to its top is exempt, whether or not it’s on the same property. The city requires that work to be done by a licensed and bonded contractor. Call us 24/7 at (425) 584-1233.
What about street trees?
The city generally maintains street trees. Removing one or doing major pruning needs city approval and a construction permit. Owners must keep at least 7 feet of clearance over sidewalks.
My property has a stream or wetland. Does that matter?
Yes. Wetlands, streams, floodplains, riparian zones, steep slopes and their buffers are critical areas, and any vegetation alteration there needs city review first. Our guide to what to do when a tree comes down covers storm damage.
Do you offer free estimates in Auburn?
Yes — free on-site inspections and written estimates, including whether your trees fall under the six-tree exemption.
