Tree Work in Bothell
Bothell Tree Service on Both Sides of the County Line
Bothell’s tree rules mostly bite on larger lots and sensitive ground. Existing single-family homes on lots of 20,000 square feet or less are exempt from the city’s tree retention rules, and routine maintenance and landscaping on developed lots of half an acre or less doesn’t need a clearing permit. Critical areas — including slopes over 40% — are a different story.
Bothell also straddles the King–Snohomish county line. The city’s tree code applies throughout, but your power company depends on the side you’re on: Puget Sound Energy in the King County part, Snohomish County PUD in the Snohomish County part. Our ISA Certified Arborists will tell you which rules apply, in a free written estimate before anything is booked.

Inside Bothell
Bothell Tree Service FAQ
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Bothell?
Often not on a typical developed lot. The city’s guide says single-family lots of 20,000 square feet or less, subdivided more than five years ago and with no critical areas, are generally exempt. Trees in critical areas, including slopes over 40%, are protected.
Does it matter which county my house is in?
Not for the tree rules — Bothell’s code applies citywide. It does decide your electric utility: PSE serves the King County side, Snohomish County PUD the Snohomish County side.
Can a dangerous tree come down right away?
Yes. Bothell exempts tree removal in emergencies involving immediate danger to life or property, and removal of dead or diseased trees. For storm damage, call us 24/7 at (425) 584-1233.
Who do I call if a tree brings down a power line?
Call 911 and stay well away. Report it to PSE at 1-888-225-5773 — or, on the Snohomish County side, to Snohomish County PUD at 425-783-1001, 24 hours a day. Our guide to what to do when a tree comes down covers the first hour.
Do you offer free estimates in Bothell?
Yes — free on-site inspections and written estimates, including whether your lot is exempt.
